What makes a kitchen more or less expensive?
Cabinets account for about one-third to one-half the total cost of the project and will have the greatest impact on your budget. They range in price considerably based on quality, the type of material they are made of, and whether they are stock (ready made in specific sizes) or custom (produced specifically for your kitchen in whatever sizes and finishes are needed).

The material you choose for surfaces including counters, backsplashes and floors can also account for variations in price. Other key elements that factor in to the equation are talent and workmanship. In the remodeling business, you tend to get what you pay for. An accomplished designer, skilled sub-tradesmen and expert installation crew may cost more. But you’ll appreciate their ability every time you use your kitchen.

What makes a bathroom remodeling more or less expensive?
No single element of a bathroom remodel comprises a significantly larger portion of the costs than other elements.  The type and quality of cabinets you select will affect your total costs.

Not surprisingly, fixtures and fittings account for a high cost percentage in the bathroom.  Expense for fixtures and fittings will vary depending on the brand, type of materials, and array of products you select.

In bathrooms, installation typically accounts for a quarter or more of the total cost.  This is because the installation work in a bathroom tends to be intricate (for example, tile setting).  If you’re looking to cut corners, this is probably not the place to do it.

Do I need to have design ideas before i start the renovation process?
Absolutely not; but it helps if you do. Your Free Design Consultation is meant to help generate ideas or work through the ones you already have.
Is re-facing a good solution when your budget is tight?
Of course, re-facing is less expensive than replacing cabinets – but it is usually not recommended. If you are planning to replace doors and drawer fronts you’ll also need to replace the front face of the cabinet frame to make sure the doors and visible parts of the cabinet match. Re-facing the frame is where problems usually occur. If the laminate shifts or peels away, an unattractive seam shows. This is most typical complaint among re-facing clients.

Another reason not to re-face is cost. The most expensive part – about 70% of a cabinet’s cost – is the door. Consider this, if you are already paying for most of the cabinet, why not add a little more and upgrade to completely new cabinets?

How long should it take from showroom visit to finished project?
A typical mid-size kitchen or bath remodel takes about 6-8 weeks to complete. This is the actual time your space will be out of commission. Before work begins, the upfront planning process typically takes 1-2 weeks, and the time needed to allow for materials to be produced can take 1-3 weeks. So, from start to finish, you should allow an approximate 4-6 weeks period from the time you start the planning process until the time the job is 100% completed. Again, this can vary widely depending on your project’s scope.
What about contracts and orders?
Before any work begins on your kitchen, get detailed, written estimates, project specifications and signed contracts from the professionals you hire. Make sure they’re bonded and insured. Check references carefully. Your designer should prepare project drawings including floor plans and renderings that clearly represent your project. If anything changes mid-project, you should be asked to sign a change order.
Should I select my appliances first and then call in a kitchen planner?
This is not recommended.  A kitchen design is much like a jigsaw puzzle, where each piece must fit into the whole design.  By all means, research your appliance choices and formulate your “wish list,” but it is usually better not to purchase your appliances until the design has been finalized.
What material is best for countertops in my home?
Your preference, lifestyle and budget are all important factors when considering which countertop is best for your home. Our knowledgeable design staff will work with you to determine the best fit for your needs. There are many different styles of countertops and materials from which they are made. For example, we carry countertop lines in quartz, granite, marble, solid surfaces, and laminate.
Can marble be used in a kitchen?
It can, but it is not advisable. The shine on marble is achieved with a final acid step. Thus, if you spill anything acidic [soft drinks, orange juice, tomato juice, etc.] and it sets for a few moments your shine will be gone. We can bring the shine back up, but it is tedious and time consuming, as well as expensive. It will stain. There is no doubt about it, it is just a matter of when and how much some accept these inherent limitations because they love the beauty of the stone, and that is just fine. However, we will make you aware of the pitfalls.
What about synthetic stones?
Most synthetics are 92% quartz and 8% polyester resins. They are strong, but they are monochromatic. They burn, scratch and fade. Colors are achieved by tinting the soft polyester adhesives. The real name should be Engineered Gravel because that is exactly why it was invented, [read the blog for details] as you might imagine, we monitor that market quite closely. We find that consumers prefer natural products to synthetics and most stone buyers tend to prefer stones with at least a little movement. Synthetic materials simply do not offer the pattern and color variations of natural stone or performance or proven investment returns.
Does granite require a lot of care?
Caring for granite is simple. There are many products on the market that can be used for caring for your countertops, but mild soap and water is usually sufficient for daily cleaning, and given its ongoing popularity, there are a slew of new products on the market for daily care.
